About Us

Mississauga Kerala Association is a non-profit cultural organization of the People of Kerala origin in and around the region of Peel. People of Kerala origin living in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) can become the active members of the association. It was established in 1988.

The purpose of this association is to promote social, physical, educational, economic, cultural, and youth activities of its members and community.

The Association provides a focal point for people of Kerala origin and helps to promote the rich Kerala culture in Canada. Our annual activities include summer picnic, Onam Celebrations, Xmas celebrations and other social and cultural functions.

Our Annual Events

Annual Picnic

When summer comes calling and there is another beautiful, dry sunny day in the forecast, we fire up the grill and have our MKA Family picnic. We gather up our family and friends for a full day of great food, fun, games & conversation!

Tree Planting

Mississauga Kerala Association shows our commitment to the environment and community connections with parks, recreation and healthy activities. We gather our friends, family, neighbours and coworkers for a Tree planting event every year in Fall in our efforts to build a green, sustainable living space. This program is launched as part of City of Mississauga's One Million Trees Program.

Onam

As Kerala’s 10-day Onam festival culminates with Thiruvonam, the Mississauga Kerala Association welcomes Maveli in typical splendor. We showcase the best of Onam’s festivities, as tradition, culture and art come together. The celebrations are capped off with a traditional sadya with the expected trimmings: Pookkalam, Thaalapoli, Chenda melam, Puli kali, a sumptuous sadya and of course, Maveli. All the customary touches from God's Own Country are in full display as MKA celebrates Onam every year.

Children's Painting competition

With a goal of encouraging appreciation for the arts among the kids of our community, Mississauga Kerala Association organizes a Painting competition to provide a platform to promote a cultural and artistic exchange among children. This event is held in November to coincide with Children’s Day celebrations in India.

Fancy Dress Competition

Dressing is one of the most exciting things for little ones. MKA provides a stage to get creative beyond the boundaries to see our little wonders jump out of excitement as they are dressed into fancy dress characters of their choice. We have a Fancy Dress competition along with our Painting competition to double up the fun on Children’s day.

Christmas Gala

Christmas to us at the Mississauga Kerala Association is the love of family, the warmth of good friends, the joy of giving, the happiness of children, the celebration of life, and peace on earth. And MKA celebrates this with a merriment, dance and dinner at our Grand Christmas Gala Dinner Show as we toast to the holidays with friends and good cheer and raise a glass to the coming New Year!
